| Now who can resist a Bagel???? A nice friend of E-rescue’s spotted me in some jail. I am so sweet, not to count how pretty I am, so she contacted E-rescue and then another really nice family with some kids brought me to Houston.
Now, they say that I will find a new home where I will be happy and be treated like a nice girl like me should be. If you have always wanted a bagel (ok that is a basset hound/beagle combination) then come on down to meet me!!!

Millie is a young Beagle Mix girl who is very much wanting a family of her own. Millie is a "velcro dog". She wants to be where her humans are. She is a fun girl who still has a LOT of puppy in her. She is house trained with supervision and crate trained. Remember Uno? The faded coat Beagle who won the Westminster Dog show? Well meet UNA! Una is also a faded coat Beagle. She's a super sweet girl who LOVES people. She's about 7 years old, a PERFECT age for a Beagle. Una is a very friendly, happy go lucky girl who for some reason ended up in an area kill shelter. Una rides very well in the car, no need to be crated, she either looks out the back window or will lay down on seat as in the attached photo (better photos will be up soon). | Sarah is a survivor. She was alone on the streets, trying to feed herself and her 9 puppies. She was eating trash in a convenience store parking lot one night when she was spotted by a kind lady who decided to help her. She fed her, then followed her back to her puppies, which she had in an abandoned old shed lying among broken beer bottles. Surprisingly all of the pups were healthy, and the whole gang was brought to safety.
Sarah loves everyone and actually smiles when she greets you! She is only about a year and a half old, and is heartworm negative. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and given a clean bill of health from the vet. She weighs about 65 pounds.

ADOPTED Poor Norbert ended up in a kill shelter because of a domestic situation. You see him mom got upset at his dad and dumped him at the kill shelter to get even with him. ADOPTED If you want an incredibly sweet dog, you have got to meet Emily. Emily was slated for euthanasia but while laying on table waiting to be PTS, the ACO had a change of heart. She could not put this sweet girl down and contacted e-rescue so that we could offer Emily a new LEASH on life.
As you can see by her pictures, Emily is built rather low to the ground, slightly stocky build but hey, she's a Corgi/Beagle mix and the Corgi part of her family definitely dictated her body style. She has the most delightful, huggy personality without being terribly clingy. Emily is all of about 2 years old, so she has reached her adult size. She's energetic but is out of the puppy stage of chaos. She had no potty messes in her kennel, so she either is or will likely house-train easily. Emily would make a fantastic companion for a single person or a terrific addition to an active family. She'll be waiting for her forever home at:

ADOPTED UPDATE: Clover, our little Golden mix girl, has had a bath, been treated for a horrible flea infestation, wormed, vaccinated and provided with a never ending supply of healthy food. She is still very timid, but allowed us to pet her and nestled her head in our hands. She actually was willing to take some bites of kibble from our fingers which is a huge step for an insecure puppy. Slowly but surely, she's learning to trust humans again. In short order, Clover will be on her feet and enjoying her puppy-hood. We'll keep you posted on Clover's progress. Look for her at adoptions soon. This precious baby was scheduled to be put to sleep in a kill shelter. E-rescue could not let that happen. She is arriving in Houston Today 4/4/08 and will be staying at our Vet's for a bit . ADOPTED This little girl is a pistol! Say hello to Joannie, every ounce a puppy and all of about 4 months old. Joannie is a delightful blend of perhaps Beagle and Bassett with just a dash of imp thrown in for good measure. Joannie has not met a stranger, is curious about absolutely everything and pretty darned happy with herself. Just look at that face. Who could blame her for being a little hung up on herself. Joannie may be vertically challenged, but will likely weigh in around 45 to 50 pounds when she's all grown up. She won't be tall, just stocky with that wonderful Bassett body. Joannie will be a fabulous companion animal for most any family with the time and energy to teach her how to become the best dog ever. ADOPTED!! Our boy Elmer is in Houston, fresh from the country and a very close call. Sweet Elmer found himself in the puppy jail through no fault of his own. Most likely, he wandered off following his nose, oh so typical of his breed! Not to worry, we had to help Elmer find a new forever home and some wonderful people to love him. He deserves nothing less. Elmer is maybe 2 years old and although he could stand to put on a couple of pounds, he is full grown. Elmer will require an experienced "scent hound" owner to insure that he doesn't get himself into trouble again, someone who knows how to keep a bassett/beagle boy safe and at home. ADOPTED....Sweet Abigail sat in a local shelter for days hoping someone would rescue her. Poor baby was so scared she would not make eye contact with anyone. One of our volunteers spotted her and knew she had to do something about her. Well she did and now Abigail is relaxing in her foster home and learning that life inside is a good thing. Abigail appears to be house broken as she’s had no accidents in the house. She will sleep in her crate quietly all night. Abbie sits on command too. Her foster mom feels she’s one who could be left to roam house as she’s very quiet and doesn’t get into things.
She is still shy but is coming around. She’s learning to trust humans and is making eye contact, wagging her tail and responding to being petted. Actually she LOVES being petted.
Abigail is about 24’ tall and a bit on skinny side but should be around 30 lbs when filled in.
We believe her to be a Terrier / Fox hound mix. These pics really do her no justices. She is afraid of the flash in camera and is camera show, so photos were taken with cell phone

ADOPTED Oh my goodness, what a little princess. Snowflake is stunning and every bit as sweet as she is beautiful. Still a puppy at roughly 5 months, this little gem arrived just a couple of days ago with her best friend Nicole (see Nicole's separate post). The puppy girls are best friends and certainly can be adopted together but it is not required. Snowflake is a Spitz mix and will probably be about 25 pounds when she's all grown up. She is a serious cuddle bug but not at all demanding, however Spitz are known for knowing exactly what they want and exactly how to get it! ADOPTED: If there ever was a miniature of the original Sandy, here she is. This precious little girl is beyond sweet and adorable. She has personality plus and is an absolute love-bug. Sandy is about 18 months old and won't get any bigger. Checking her tummy, it was clear that Sandy has recently been a mom, but those days are over. No more puppies for Sandy! ADOPTED Oh my goodness, just look at this face! Meet our little doll, Maggie. Maggie is just a baby, maybe 6 to 9 months old and full of life. We think Maggie is a glorious mix of sheltie and perhaps chow. As you can see from her pictures, she's not very big at all and we don't think she'll be very large when she's all grown up. She has a double coat, all shades of brown, tan, red and black. Brushing and good nutrition will make sure that her gorgeous coat continues to shine and stay healthy. She was so busy today at adoptions. So much to see, people to meet and lots of stuff to smell. We think Maggie rather enjoyed herself. ADOPTEDSay hi to Charlie, the baby JRT mix. We're not sure exactly what Charlie's true lineage might include and many discussions were had. Maybe some Heeler in there (see the markings) maybe not, but he is pure-bred puppy! Charlie is only 4 to 6 months old and a little character through and through. He plays, he romps, he stomps, he sniffs and rolls in the grass, all in true happy puppy fashion. As Charlie is still a growing boy, it's hard to determine what his grown up size will be, but he will most likely be a medium sized boy, maybe 35 to 50 pounds when all the growing is done. Charlie would make an awesome running buddy and a playmate for kiddos. Since he will be a medium sized dog, Charlie would do best in a home with fenced yard full of grass to play in with his family. ADOPTED: What a silly, silly boy! Todd is just a little delight; funny, furry, full of energy and ready to explore every square inch of his world. Toddy is a little fluffy terrier/schnauzer mix and maybe 9 months to a year old. He seemed to enjoy everything that comes along. Treats, yum. Grass, oooh, feels good. Walks, that's fun! Sights, smells, people, toys, blankies......everything seems to bring Todd endless joy and entertainment. Needless to say, Todd brought plenty of entertainment to all of us who got to spend some time with him. Todd is still a baby, but we think he's close to his full grown size. This little guy was lucky to have landed with the sweetest animal control officer on the planet and lucky that E-Rescue had a spot just waiting for him to arrive. Lucky is about a year old, very small, maybe 35 pounds, neutered, vaccinated and ready to head for home. ADOPTED!!!!!!!!!!!! Kramer. Poor skinny boy was picked up by Animal Control and needed to be rescued, so e-rescue went and got him thanks to a wonderful foster home to offered to foster him a few weeks, while he recovers from his neuter and can gain a bit of much needed weight.
He is a very calm and sweet Beagle boy and has already learned to ring the bell on his back door in order to be let out to potty, according to his foster mom. He’s been neutered and vaccinated and will be ready to go to his forever home soon. He’s a very lucky boy!

ADOPTED!!!Hey, what do you get if you mix a Spitz momma with a Red Heeler daddy? RUSTY and here he is! You may remember seeing Rusty before. Rusty, formerly known as Oscar was one of the precious Spitz mix puppies we had back in July. Everyone was adopted and placed into their forever homes, right? Not exactly. Poor little Rusty was returned yesterday, his family saying they didn't have the time to train their boy. This daling little guy was so confused but was loving all of the attention that he got from the volunteers and visitors at adoptions. We were quite surprised by the lack of accidents in Rusty's kennel. At only 5 months and with no training, Rusty has a good grip on the potty-outside stuff. He did really well on a leash and is so eager to please. It's hard to tell from his pictures, but Rusty has the stature of a Spitz (relatively small), but obviosly has the glorious coloring of his dad. We think Rusty will be a medium sized boy when he's all grown up, maybe 40 pounds or so. Just the perfect size to fit into most any setting, although we think he'd do best in a home with room for Rusty to play with his family in a secure yard. ADOPTED! My name is Tramp and I'm a happy boy. My owners didn't want me anymore and the nice people at E-Rescue said I could come and stay with them while I'm waiting for my forever home. My mommy was a Wire Haired Fox Terrier. I heard her tell a friend that dad might have been a Giant Schnauzer, but I never got to meet him, so I don't really know. I had so much fun at adoptions today and got to roll in the grass and meet lots of new people. I like it here. The food is good, the people are so nice and I get chewies and toys and lots of walks. They tell me when I'm all grown up, I'm going to be about 50 pounds or so, but not much taller than I am right now. I'd love to have a home with a nice yard to play in with my family, maybe a couple of human siblings or a doggie sister or brother too. I'm only about 9 months old. ADOPTED: Monty is doing great, his foster home reports that he is a very funny boy and does the goofiests things. He gets along with the three resident dogs and the cats too. He is very respectful of them and loves to give them puppy kisses. He's ready for his forever home. New photos comming soon.
UPDATE: Monty (formerly known as Droopy) has been to the Vet, it appears he was attacked by another dog or animal as he has some wounds on his hind quarters. The Vet put him on Antibiotics and pain medication. His foster home reports that Monty is doing well. He's runnig an playing with the resident dogs /cats. He's put on some weight and soon will be ready for his neuter.
Poor Droopy, his people moved and left him behind. He had been fending for himself and not doing a vey good job at it as he is very skinny. An E Rescue Volunteer met Droopy at the shelter while picking up anther dog. Seem Droopy was so exhausted and weak that all he could do was lift his head and softly. Our volunteer told us about him and we decided to give Droopy a new chance at life! Droopy is being fostered in NW Houston and we will let you know more about him, once his foster home has gotten to know him better. We will also have new photos soon, so please check back with us. She is so pleased when someone pauses and pays attention, she is filled with wonder at the joy of it all. When you sit down on the floor next to her, she would never presume to climb in your lap, she sits next to you and is so very pleased with a gentle rub
Tuttles has a wiry-haired face but the fur on her torso is soft and fun to touch. This dog is very dedicated to being housebroken. Tuttles has had no accidents in her kennel and only gets walked once a day!

Here's what E-Rescue has learned bout Basil:
Talk about a lover boy. This fun loving basset/lborder cross is full of confidence and happiness. Bass is fully housebroken and has shown himself to have the highest standards known to dogs in such matters. He loves baths and walks, and rubs and to be carried like a baby in your arms.
On a walk sometimes Bass will just look around and sound his basset voice - just celebrating the happiness of his day- and he'll look at you as it to say, "isn't life great?" He's not much into scenting on
a walk, he does some regular dog sniffing, but he is much more interested in you!
Now when you sit on the ground with Bass, he instantly crawls in your lap for a cuddle. Bass will love a family that is into physical affection. He likes to love and be loved with his whole little short body. He loves other dogs and greets them with tremendous happiness.

ADOPTED!!!!! Scruffy is doing great on his leash training and crate training., At adoptions he wants people to come by an meet him, he is such a love. He will make the best dog, hurry and go meet him today!!
E-Rescue Received an email about a dog who needed out of shelter desperately. So we sent a volunteer to get him. Poor baby had such a bad case of fleas that he has sores and missing hair. The Vet put medication on him and said all he needs is a little time and lots of love to be the gorgeous dog he TRULY is!
Scruffy is a very sweet boy who looks at you and makes your heart melt with his gorgous brown eyes. He was painfully shy at first but in JUST on day, he's discovered that Human can be good and can be trusted. It was amazing to see him make such a change in just 24 hours!
Scruffy is 18 months old, and right now is painfully thin at 27 lbs, he is tri color so , it's quite possible there is a Beagle or Coonhound in his lineage. But there is no telling for sure.
We will post more about Scruffy once we've had a chance to better get to know him. Also check back for updated photos

Meet Sage & Clara, 2 precious Border Collie mix puppies who arrived in Houston with their momma Crissy. They were rescued from east Texas by a very special doggie angel and will never know another mean day if E-Rescue has anything to say about it! Sage & Clara and absolutely darling babies, about 3 months old and a little timid right now, but that will change as they come to realize they are safe and sound and life can be fun. These 2 will be about 50 pounds when grown, so a home with a nice yard and secure fence will provide them with a proper play ground with their new humans. Fly-ball or frisbee will be grand pass times for either of these girls as Border Collies love to work at something. If you would like to scoop up one of these delightful babies, better hurry. As pretty as they are, they won't be around for long!

ADOPTED!!! Say hi to Bear all of you Keeshond lovers out there. This young man is certainly a find and not one that comes along in Houston very often. For those of you unfamiliar with Keeshonds, they are friendly, great "kid" dogs, energetic, compact little guys who absolutely must be part of the family to be happy. Bear is picture perfect having been groomed and trimmed to remove all of the nasty matting that was in his beautiful fur. But having such beautiful fur, you must take care to keep him an inside dog only. Must too hot in Houston to be outside in a glorious fur coat!
Bear is about 2 years old, will be neutered, vaccinated and ready to go. He's super sweet, just a cuddle bug and to be perfectly honest, we had a hard time not scooping him up and taking him home ourselves! I asked for a Doggy Lawyer but apparently they were all pretty busy helping other dogs, so I sat and waited for several days, heard something about my "time running out" and saw sad faces. wasn't exactly sure what that was all about but knew it could not be a good thing. ADOPTED: Little Reba arrived in Houston yesterday afternoon on the wings of an Angel, after being saved from the dreaded needle. She was a last minute rescue as many of our dogs are. | ADOPTED!!! Hey Houston, say hi to Crissy. Crissy is the young momma Border Collie (maybe 3 years old) who had an angel step in to save her life. She had been dumped by her former owners and spent 2 years on the mean streets in east Texas, fending for herself and litter after litter of puppies until her special angel put a stop to it. Crissy was rescued with 2 of her last litter of puppies and there will be no more babies for this classic beauty. Crissy has the picture perfect markings of a border collie: white feet and a white tipped tail. Given a little time, training and above all, love, Crissy will be a wonderful addition to the right household. She'd make a great frisbee or fly-ball dog as Border Collies really want to work and have something to focus on. A secure yard to play in will be a must for this girl. ADOPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A few months ago, E-Rescue was helped by some great folks to get Teddi and her pal Corey to Houston from a shelter in north Texas. Corey has been adopted but poor Teddi is still waiting for her home. Teddi is a young adult Shepherd mix and as big as she is going to get. If you check out her pictures, you'll see that she's not even knee-high to our volunteer. She's got those almost perfect Shepherd ears but she has the short legs and a long body or perhaps a Corgi. Teddi would do best as an only child and needs a home with a nice yard to play with her new human companions. She loves to take walks, get belly rubs, and settle in with a good chewie. | ADOPTED: Our little Wags is an adorable baby heeler mix puppy and yes, you've met her before. Wags and her sister Wiggles came to E-Rescue a couple of months ago as tiny little puppies. Of course, both girls were quickly adopted with promises of love, training and guidance to help them learn how to be proper little house-girls. Well, Wags family just didn't have the time for her and now she's back with us. She's still just a baby, about 6 or 7 months old. Wags has grown, but she's still a little girl, maybe 25 pounds and will probably be about 50 pounds when she's all grown up. She's so friendly and absolutely loves kids. He loves everybody and loves other dogs but he just does not want to share his food bowl with other members of the pack. Would you? We have been told he is very sweet with children and will allow any human to take his food. He loves to play with other dogs according to the previous owner. | ADOPTED.....This teeny little was rescued from an abusive home & brought to one of our wonderful vet’s offices. Her human angel asked the folks there to find her a new home, & they called E-Rescue to help. When we asked the ladies at the vet’s office to help name her, one of them said she’s cuter than a baby bug, & she was instantly named! Bug has been spayed & has had her first set of puppy shot. Bug now needs a home of her own. She is a Lab mix girl & will be about 40 pounds when she’s all grown up, so she needs room to run & a family committed to training! We’re told that Bug never potties in her kennel & will likely housetrain easily. Bug is making new friends & looking for her family on Saturdays at:

Chloe’s a senior girl, about 10 years old but full of life & raring to go. She has been spayed & vaccinated & now Chloe needs a home of her own. She is a sweet beagle, likely pure bred. She plenty active & loves to get attention but no longer has the hyper energy of a pup. She’ll love to explore & takes walk with you or just be content by your side. | ADOPTED!!!!This little guy is named David and he is quite a trooper. When E-Rescue was called about David, he had such a horrible case of mange his skin was bleeding and he was so sick. We just had to help this boy get better. David has had one treated for mange and will be treated again next week. He's such a good boy and has been so patient with the healing process and is doing so much better. David does not potty in his kennel but waits to be taken for a walk. What a good boy! We think David might be an Afghan mix but until his hair grows out completely, it will be hard to tell for sure. His little legs sure look like he has some Afghan in there. | ADOPTED...Our little Emma is just a doll. She is about 5 to 6 months old and her mommy was a pure bred beagle. Dad obviously wasn't! We think the other half of Emma's DNA may have been contributed by a good looking Schnauzer boy, but we're really not sure. Her little legs almost look like short little Doxie legs, so who really knows. Emma is the sweetest little girl, quite a cuddle-bug who is looking for her a forever home of her very own. Who ever is lucky enough to snatch up this adorable baby will surely have the best little girl for life! Emma is kennel trained and does not potty in her kennel at all! We have 3 of the cutest, fluffiest little Chow-mix puppies we've ever seen. Actually there were 5 of these little guys who were left in a box outside of the pound in a box, all by themselves, in the heat. Of course the wonderful ACO got the pups into the air conditioning and gave them food, water and a chance at a good life because she knows we'll find them great homes. There are 2 little boys, Chetney Bear & Bear Bear and one little girl, Sugar Bear. These precious babies will make fabulous pets and are great with kids. Early socialization is key to having a happy, playful pup, so the more people around these guys, the better. If you love puppy breath, you'd better hurry for a cuddle because these adorable babies will not be around for long. | ADOPTED..........Here is our boy Yoda. No, the ears really are on the right doggie although they don't look like they belong on a boy this small. To be perfectly honest, we have no idea what Yoda's breed might be. Is there such a breed as "ten-foot-tall & bullet-proof"? If so, that's Yoda! He is full of life and totally full of personality. Yoda reminds us of a little troll doll from the 60's and just makes us laugh. Yoda is only a couple of months old and is not all that big. Since we are not sure of his eventual size, we would recommend that Yoda go to a home with a yard for him to play in and people who are committed to teaching Yoda how to be a perfect little gentleman. | ADOPTED.....Honey, I shrunk the Lab! Meet Fred. Fred appears to be a Yellow Lab/Basset mix with all of the fun characteristics of both breeds. Fred has the most beautiful "Lab" face, and the legs and build of a Basset. We're not sure about the ears as they are neither Lab nor Basset. He is strikenly handsome with the cutest squatty-body. Since Fred is about a year old, he is as big as he is going to get, certainly no taller, not with those legs! Fred is one happy guy with a sweet personality, good on a leash and eager to please. | ADOPTED........PRECIOUS GIRL LOOKING FOR LOVE: Honey, I shrunk another Lab and this one is a girl! Penelope is a Lab/Basset mix girl, black as coal with a beautiful, shinny coat. Penelope is such a little lady, kind of shy, but sweet as they come. The animal control officer who pulled her from the street says Penelope is quite a ball player, running and catching the ball and bringing it back for more play. Penelope is only about a year old but she is full grown and compact, kind of low to the ground. Penelope will make an awsome companion and a great family addition. | ADOPTED.....This is sweet little Gunner. Gunner was found by a kind person who knew this puppy needed help as Gunner had a nasty little case of mange. Well Gunner has been treated and his skin has healed and he is ready to find his very own forever home. Gunner is a little Border Collie mix and just a few months old. When he is all grown up, Gunner will probably be about 40 pounds which will make him the perfect sized boy for just about any home. He would be a great addition to a family with a nice, secure yard for him to play in and a kid or two to call his own. Now please understand, we doubt this boy has any musical ability as did his namesake but what he does have is the ability to give tons of love and make us smile. Bach and his precious little brother Beethoven are two precious puppies rescued from the streets and certain death by a kind and caring animal control officer after they had been adandoned on the side of the road. Other than wire-haired something, we honestly have no idea what breed Bach might be. He is a pretty good sized puppy, about 10 - 12 weeks old, still has his baby teeth and is as cute as as he can be can be. As we do not know his eventual size, we would suggest Bach go to a home with room to safely run and play, as well as a family committed to teaching him how to be a proper house-pup. Here's our very own Barney, likely a pure bred Basset Hound and one delightful little boy. Barney is only a few years old. He's kennel trained and good on a leash. Just look at those ears and what gorgeous markings this boy has!
